Mission Statement:

The Office of Certification assures to the citizens of Baltimore city that all professional public educational staff possesses the minimum essential knowledge and skills needed to achieve outcomes for public education declared by the State Board of Education

Overview of Department:

City Schools has a Maryland State Department of Education Certification Authorized Partner (CAP) who reviews, determines, and approves all City School Employees certification on site. The Certification team provides the following:

The Certification team provides the following:

Counseling and information about requirements for initial certificates, endorsements, and renewals.
Determines “highly qualified” status of educators teaching core academic subjects (CAS) in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act.
Determines eligibility for courses taken under City Schools tuition reimbursement program.
Determines eligibility for educational lane changes (salary).
