What are Community Schools?

At City Schools, our Community Schools function as physical hubs that provide students, families, and the community with meaningful opportunities to engage in collaborative decision-making. The Community School Strategy encourages all school stakeholders to join together, build relationships, and create positive environments that facilitate learning, growth, and strong, vibrant support systems for our students.

The Community School Strategy aims to ensure that all City School students learn and succeed through an integrated focus on college and career readiness, health and social services, community development, and authentic family engagement. There are 154 Community Schools in Baltimore City, which is 97% of all District schools. These Community Schools establish and leverage strategic community partnerships to promote student achievement and the overall well-being of students, families, educators, and our district.

Community School Steering Committee

The Community School Steering Committee (CSSC) was established as part of the Community School Policy and initially adopted in 2016. The CSSC is a group of stakeholders, experts, and community leaders assembled to promote, oversee, and evaluate the implementation of the Community School Strategy in City Schools. Take a look at the CSSC meeting times for the rest of the year:
