My name is Dr. Sedrick Smith and I have had the honor and privilege to be the Fallstaff Elementary/Middle School principal since 2022. During that time and with your help, we have seen Fallstaff transform with now over 600 students, major improvements in ELA and Math and increased engagement and participation from families.
I am a proud product of Baltimore City Public Schools, having graduated from Baltimore City College in 2001. I completed my bachelor's degree in history and education from Loyola University Maryland, where I also completed my master's degree in literacy education as a reading specialist. In 2020, I earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. This year marks my 20th year in the district, having previously served as a National board certified and model classroom teacher, social studies department chair, new teacher mentor, and resident principal.
Our goal is to give each and every Fallstaff student, the first-class education they deserve.
I wholeheartedly believe that if we truly love children, the best way we can show that is by creating a warm and nurturing school environment and by giving them the opportunity to be the most authentic and successful version of themselves. This can only happen when all levels of the school (admin, staff and families) work together to create a community that values both students and teachers and prioritizes the well-being of students on par with the quality of education they receive.
We strive to create a school community where our culture and climate are guided by the question that the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania use to measure the success of their community, "And how are the children?". Their traditional response is: "All the children are well". When all of the children are well, physically, socially, emotionally and academically, then, and only then, can we consider ourselves truly successful.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you this school year as we pull together to build Fallstaff into a school that truly serves the needs of all of our students!
