Academics
The educational program at GHEMS is built on the fundamental belief that all scholars possess a desire to learn and the potential to achieve. Our approach incorporates Project-Based Learning (PBL) to craft meaningful educational experiences linked to real-world problems. PBL units help students develop essential skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship—collectively known as the 5 Cs.
For those interested in exploring Project-Based Learning further, the Buck Institute website is a valuable resource. GHEMS embraces a blended learning model that seamlessly integrates technology and digital media with traditional, instructor-led classroom activities. This approach offers students greater flexibility to tailor their learning experiences, ultimately enhancing their chances of success.
We firmly believe that scholars thrive in an environment where creative thinking, active listening, and positive interactions are consistently emphasized. Through collaborative efforts between teachers and peers, students cultivate a profound love for learning. Our scholars are taught to formulate questions about concepts, reflect on their learning, and apply their knowledge, thereby developing initiative and self-advocacy skills.
In the Preschool, Lower, and Upper Elementary levels, the curriculum places significant emphasis on foundational language skills. This includes reading fluency and comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, as well as writing letters, sentences, and paragraphs. Proficiency in decoding language is deemed crucial for success across all subjects. Similarly, in mathematics, students progress through the mastery of fundamental principles such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded educational experience for our scholars.
