GHEMS Leadership

As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, we stand at the threshold of a new chapter filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and achievement. This year, we are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and impactful environment where every member of our school community can thrive.

To Our Parents: Your unwavering support and involvement are the bedrock of our school’s success. We value your partnership and encourage you to stay engaged with your child’s education. Together, we can create a nurturing environment that promotes academic excellence and personal development. Let's continue to communicate openly, support our children’s dreams, and celebrate their achievements.

To Our Teachers: Your dedication and passion for teaching inspire us all. You are the heart of our school, and your commitment to our students' success is evident in everything you do. This year, let's embrace innovation, collaborate more closely, and support one another in our mission to provide the best education possible. Remember, your impact extends far beyond the classroom, shaping the future of each student you teach.

To Our Students: You are the reason we are here. Your curiosity, enthusiasm, and determination drive us to be better every day. Embrace this school year with an open mind and a positive attitude. Challenge yourselves, support your peers, and strive for excellence in all your endeavors. Believe in your potential, and remember that your hard work and dedication will lead to incredible accomplishments.

Together, we can make this school year a memorable and successful one. Let's focus on creating an environment where kindness, respect, and a love for learning are at the forefront. Let’s inspire each other to reach new heights and make a positive impact in our school and beyond.

Here’s to a fantastic 2024-2025 school year filled with growth, joy, and achievement!

Principal - Keisha Matthews-Traynham

As your principal, my vision for GHEMS is to provide students with an educational experience that inspires and motivates them to be lifelong learners and caring contributors to the world around them. Our goal is to provide a phenomenal, nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each student.

I am excited to work with GHEMS families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration to help provide an excellent, safe educational experience for our students. By working together in a cooperative spirit, we expect to achieve wonderful things for our students this school year.

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

Asst. Principal - Shalanda Lyons-Oke

I am thrilled to join the Garrett Heights EMS community to work with you all to enhance the lives of our scholars and families. I am the Assistant Principal for the middle school grades at GHEMS. This will be my 21st year working in Baltimore City Schools.

In addition to being an Assistant Principal, I have worked as a Mathematics support teacher for all grades and as a Science Teacher for students in grades 6 through 9. When I am not working, I love to spend time with my family and friends, baking, relaxing on vacations, reading all types of books for entertainment, and completing logic games and puzzles.
