Community Schools

Information about Community Schools"Community Schools represent a strategy, not a program."

A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, youth development, family support, health and social services, and community development leads to improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities.

Community schools work to achieve and show the below outcomes:
*Children are ready to enter school
*Students attend school consistently
*Students are actively involved in learning and their community
*Families are increasingly involved with their children's education
*Schools are engaged with families and communities
*Students succeed academically

The Y in Central Maryland serves as the lead agency for 20 community schools in Baltimore City, and partners with even more throughout the City and Baltimore County.

Largely funded by Family League of Baltimore and Baltimore City Public Schools, the Y's Community Schools Coordinators/Directors work with the principal, families and other community stakeholders, to facilitate fundamental supports for students such as access to food, proper clothing, and school supplies which enable students to do what they came to school for in the first place -- to learn.

The 4th & 5th Grade Y OST students created a Takis Commercial with our Videography Vendor: Creative Development. Click to watch it below!
