Back-to-School Forms & Info

Student Entry

Students will enter the building daily at 7:30 a.m. Teachers will begin to take attendance as students arrive. Students will be marked late by their homeroom teacher after 7:45 a.m.

Any lateness after 8:15 a.m. will be marked in the main office and students will be issued a late pass prior to reporting to class.

Free breakfast is available for all students from 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will not be available on days that City Schools declare a one or two-hour delay due to inclement weather.

Dismissal

Parents are respectfully asked to avoid removing students from school prior to 2:10 p.m. In order to preserve the integrity of the school day no early dismissals will be issued after 12:30 p.m. School personnel will not be available to assume parental supervision after the close of the school day. If a parent/guardian is unexpectedly delayed arriving for dismissal they are asked to contact the school and advise office personnel of the situation.

At dismissal, students are to meet their parents at the students' designated exit, promptly board the bus, or begin walking home from school. Elementary students waiting for middle school siblings should wait outside the building and not in the middle school wing. Once students have left the building, they will not be permitted to re-enter without parental supervision. Loitering on or around school grounds after dismissal is not permitted.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up (Student Entrance Loop)

The Violetville student entrance loop and the bus loop are congested areas that are shared by both vehicles and pedestrians. To make the campus as safe as possible, please:

  • Drive slowly (5 mph) with extreme caution.

  • Avoid using cell phones.

  • Always yield to foot traffic.

  • Do not wait or park blocking crosswalk.

  • Wait at designated areas marked as drop-off and pick-up lanes.

  • Pull all the way forward to allow more room for a greater number of parents.

  • Never leave your vehicle unattended.

  • Load and unload in the drop-off lane or park in the parking area and escort your student to and from the sidewalk.

  • Do not double park or otherwise block traffic.

All students must be picked up by 2:20 p.m. Cars are not allowed in the bus loop during dismissal.

Communication With and From Violetville

General Chain of Communication
When a parent has concerns or needs clarification on something with regard to their child in class, as a matter of professional courtesy and respect for faculty, please contact the teacher in question first. Should you not be satisfied with the results of your discussion with the teacher(s), please follow this typical chain of command: initial call should be made to the teacher first, followed by the appropriate administrator.

Keeper of Updated Information
The school secretary is our official “keeper of information.” Please note that we use various forms of automated and technological means of communication with our ‘ohana (families). It is important that any changes in contact information (address, phone, email, or other) be communicated immediately.

Student Responsibility
It is an important student responsibility to ensure that all flyers, notices, forms, and other materials distributed at school are given to parents on the day they are received from their teachers. Parents of younger students may wish to establish a means of obtaining materials from their child daily in order to avoid missing information.

Health and Safety

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Maryland Department of Health procedures and guidelines on the response to COVID-19 have changed. As a result, City Schools is changing its response models for the 2023-24 school year.

As of June 13, 2023, City Schools will no longer provide COVID testing, service, or support to schools or offices. All COVID-related concerns should be addressed by the Baltimore City Health Department.

A list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) with information about the latest COVID response updates can be found on City School's website at COVID Response FAQ.

If you have additional questions, please contact the COVID response team via email at Email COVID Response or call (443) 984-1200.

Thank you for your support of City Schools’ COVID Response program, and your continued efforts in keeping our community safe.
