Academic Requirements For the Classes of 2012-2015

Western offers five academic programs: College Preparatory, Accelerated College Preparatory, Teacher Academy, Biomedical Sciences, and IT Networking Academy (CISCO).

All five programs:

  • exceed state graduation requirements

  • meet nationwide college admissions standards

  • offer the opportunity to enroll in honors and Advanced Placement courses

The Accelerated College Preparatory Program has these additional features:

  • most rigorous program

  • minimum of 4 honors or Advanced Placement courses per year

  • minimum total of 3 A.P. courses required

The Teacher Academy requires four additional courses that prepare students for a career in education:

  • Human Growth & Development

  • Teaching as a Profession

  • Foundations of Curriculum & Instruction

  • Educational Academy Internship

The Biomedical Sciences program (Project Lead the Way) requires four additional courses that prepare students careers in biomedical sciences:

  • Principles of the Biomedical Sciences

  • Human Body Systems

  • Medical Interventions

  • Biomedical Innovation

The IT Networking Academy (CISCO) requires four additional courses that prepare students careers in biomedical sciences:

  • 2 IT Essentials: Fundamentals of PC HW and SW

  • 1 IT Essentials Advanced PC HW and SW
