Every week, we highlight some remarkable achievements, innovations, and success stories. Let's celebrate the great work of our schools, staff, and students!   

Here are a few awesome things that happened this week:

  • The Orioles invited Highlandtown #215 students to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by taking them onto the field during batting practice. There, they had the opportunity to meet and ask questions of Yennier Cano and Cionel Perez. See photos from this meeting on Twitter.
     
  • We celebrated our expanded Middle School Athletics program at the first middle school cross-country meet! Thanks to Mayor Scott and others for joining us. Visit the Mayor’s Instagram page to see more photos. 
     
  • In September, the district office hosted immunization clinics to help students' attendance. We had 1,670 students immunized. Big thanks to everyone who made this initiative possible.
     
  • Poly and BSA were both recognized by the College Board's AP Honor Roll this year! Both schools received gold status.
     
  • Our building program was featured on the front page of The Boston Globe as a possible model to help Boston. Click here to read the article.
     
  • The Image Center - VME Program Services visited and donated adapted bikes for students at Baer. Visit Baer’s Facebook page to see photos.
     
  • Pre-K students at Garrett Heights have been watching monarch butterfly caterpillars emerge from their chrysalis and then setting them free. Click here to see photos!
     
  • At Poly, Mr. Headley's Intro to Research Methods students correlate the philosophy of Rene Descartes with their STEM curriculum. This class helps students prepare for and excel in AP Seminar, which they can take next year. Learn more on Mr. Headley’s Twitter.
     
  • While the hustle and bustle of summer grew in the city, the City Schools Operations Department welcomed 21 bright and eager students into their Internship and Apprenticeship Program. One of them wound up getting a full-time job with Operations! 
     
  • At Claremont, members of the transition team made sure that students over 18 got their MD State IDs. See photos on Claremont’s Twitter.
     
  • The Hippodrome Foundation provided Douglass students with an opportunity to see a special dress rehearsal performance of “The Wiz.”BSA dancers had the incredible opportunity to attend an open rehearsal by the Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Click here to see photos from their trip.
