Khalilah Slater Harrington, who began her career in education and the non-profit sector over 20 years ago, has been appointed to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners by Mayor Brandon M. Scott. Slater Harrington was sworn in as a commissioner on March 13.
Slater Harrington currently serves as the Chief Program Officer at the Family League of Baltimore where she manages a $22 million investment portfolio of programs in Child and Maternal Health, School Readiness, Family Preservation and Stability, Food Access, Community Schools, Out of School Time, and Opportunity Youth.
Slater Harrington fills the vacancy created by the expired term of Commissioner and Chair Emeritus, Linda M. Chinnia.
In addition to Commissioner Slater Harrington, Commissioner Esposito and Commissioner Kenyatta-Bey have also joined the Board of School Commissioners. Esposito and Kenyatta-Bey were recently voted onto the Board by Baltimore City residents, making them the first-ever elected Board members in the history of Baltimore City.
Esposito is a passionate advocate for trauma-informed care, disability inclusion, and restorative practices with a professional background in Information Technology and communications.
Kenyatta-Bey is a former student and educator of Baltimore City Public Schools with experience as a technical director, actor, production manager, and theatrical director.
Esposito and Kenyatta-Bey were sworn in as commissioners on January 27.
