BALTIMORE – On June 27, 2023, the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners voted to appoint Ronald S. McFadden as Board Chair and Shantell L. Roberts as Vice Chair.
McFadden was appointed to the Board in 2018, serving as Vice Chair from 2021. McFadden is a musician, former City Schools educator, and advocate for educational equity in America's urban communities. His chair position on the Board’s Teaching and Learning Committee and membership on the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee have allowed him to combine his extensive expertise and key perspective to support the Board’s efforts for student success. McFadden fills the vacancy created by the expired term of Board Chair Johnette A. Richardson.
Roberts was appointed to the Board in 2019. Roberts is a City Schools parent, social entrepreneur, advocate for maternal and child health, and founder of Touching Young Lives Inc. She is a Baltimore native and a graduate of three Baltimore City Public Schools: Yorkwood Elementary, Hamilton Middle School, and Western High School. Her chair position on the Board’s Operations Committee and membership on the Board’s Audit Committee provide room for her unique insight and diverse background to flourish for the betterment of City Schools.
