Kids and teachers sitting on the floor at a classroom posing for photo

September 8, 2023

Every week, we highlight some of the remarkable achievements, innovations, and success stories. Let's celebrate the great work of our schools, staff, and students!

Here are a few awesome things that happened this week:

  • Students at Baer School had a class color day to celebrate the first week of school. Each class made displays outside their classroom to represent their class color. See some photos from this fun community activity on Baer's Facebook.

  • Thanks to BCCC, P-TECH students at Dunbar now have a shuttle to take them to their classes at the BCCC campus. Check out this video from their first trip on Instagram.

  • So far, over 380 students have been immunized at the free immunization clinics held at the district office. We're still holding them until September 29, so if you know a family that needs immunizations, encourage them to sign up.

  • Hamilton's fifth-grade students are using the engineer-design process to create 3-D paper cubes in their Makerspace.

  • Frederick Douglass alumna and sculptor Ed Wilson's exhibit "The Sculptor as Afro-humanist" opens this week at the Binghamton University Art Museum. Read more about the exhibit here.

  • Three high school students from BLSYW attended the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado, through the City Lights program! Students met with filmmakers and directors, including Jon Batiste, Ethan Hawke, and Ken Burns. Students also got to see world premieres of new movies.

  • Maryland Cycling Classic and UnitedHealthcare surprised all third-grade students at William Paca with brand-new bikes and helmets. Read more about this on WMAR.

Have a great story to share? We want to know about it! Submit your ideas.
