September 30, 2022 For Immediate Release

Congratulations to Holabird and Graceland Schools for winning first place in the Region III Technology Awards for the American Society of heating, Refrigeration, and Air- Conditioning Engineers. The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognizes outstanding engineering projects that have applied innovative building design in occupant comfort, energy conservation and indoor air quality.

City Schools along with CMTA and architectural firm Grimm + Parker, was able to drive down energy usage in the new school buildings by examining all energy sources. Through our research and design work, City Schools was awarded the Maryland Energy Authority Zero Energy Grant to purchase the renewable energy sources for Holabird and Graceland schools. The new schools were designed to achieve Zero Energy and LEED Platinum Certification, which means that the buildings produce enough renewable energy on their own, which results in less overall greenhouse gas to the atmosphere than non- Zero Energy buildings.
