October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time of year when we rededicate ourselves to supporting learning environments free of bullying and harassment. Baltimore City Public Schools is committed to ensuring all schools and offices are welcoming and inclusive spaces for all students, families, and staff.
All community members should feel welcome and respected in our halls and at our events. We have strengthened that commitment by hiring new anti-bullying coordinators to support school culture and climate initiatives at our schools, and by ensuring that staff receives comprehensive training on preventing and responding to bullying and harassment.
This month, we will have anti-bullying programs in our schools that support the curriculum taught throughout the year. Students will learn about how to express and spread kindness, how to identify bullying, the importance of speaking up about bullying, and how to report bullying. One of the main activities will be Unity Day on Wednesday, October 19, where we ask everyone to wear orange to support Bullying Awareness. Please help us in our efforts to make kindness go viral.
City Schools offers a variety of anti-bullying and harassment resources, as well as ways to report misconduct. If you are being harassed, notify an administrator at your school or visit baltimorecityschools.org/bullying to report such incidents. We are here and willing to help.
