During tonight's meeting of the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners, City Schools CEO Dr. Sonja Brookins Santelises announced the appointment of Thomas T. Jones to serve as the new chief information technology officer. Jones will begin his role effective July 12.

Mr. Jones will lead the IT efforts of the district, providing strategic planning, application development, technology implementation services, and integration of technology tools in support of instructional objectives and business needs of the district.

He brings a deep technical knowledge and understanding of the needs of urban communities,” said City Schools CEO Sonja Brookins Santelises. “The past year has proven how vital technology is to the learning and work environments. We have made great strides toward closing the digital divide for our school community. I am certain that his knowledge, experience, and personal passion will drive technological innovation throughout the district.”

Mr. Jones, who studied at Oglethorpe University, brings a broad and diverse range of experience.  He has helped public and private sectors enhance internal operations and develop strategic plans for information technology and communications capabilities.

He began his career in technical operations and progressed to leading Fortune 500 level IT organizations. Mr. Jones’ career includes work in the federal, state and local government, public school systems, retail, manufacturing, financial services sectors and utilities.

Mr. Jones has served as the deputy chief information officer in Prince George’s County for the past two years. In this role, his responsibility was reimagining technology, systems, and approaches to finding, utilizing, and quickly delivering innovation in a virtual environment. Most recently, he led the vaccination management system response for the COVID-19 vaccine re-imagining how the county could manage the registration, scheduling, and administration of the vaccinations.
