What a great week at City Schools!
Championships, innovative programs, exciting opportunities, and prestigious recognitions - there's always something to celebrate in City Schools!
Here are just a few of the good news items from this week:
Congratulations to Dunbar and Mervo for both winning state football championships!
Congratulations to Senior Vocalist John Paige from BSA, who has been honored with the prestigious Young Arts Award.
City Schools students participated in the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting at Baltimore City Hall. There were performances by students from Frederick Douglass, Thomas Jefferson, ConneXions, City College, Maree Garnett Farring, Federal Hill, OrchKids, and BIA West.
Dickey Hill hosted its inaugural Math Bee. Pre-K through eighth-grade students participated in a game show-style math competition.
Students in Bard’s Chinese Club and those taking college Chinese classes visited the Chinese Embassy and Chinatown in Washington, DC on December 1. They were joined by members of the Xiamen Sister City Committee, which is collaborating with Bard to provide enriching learning opportunities.
Students from the BIA MSO (Maryland Science Olympiad) Team participated in the 'Build It Study It' event at Johns Hopkins. They participated in a series of STEM activities including crafting a prototype for a heart valve replacement.
Fifteen seniors at Edmondson-Westside received admission to Frostburg State University. Eleven students received academic scholarships worth over $60,000.
Project Lead the Way engineering students from Western paired with Biomedical Engineering students from Johns Hopkins University to learn how to use Arduino and how to code a pulse sensor.
Poly’s Green Team leaders spoke to Poly’s faculty about the 2024 Green Schools application and the different environmental initiatives Poly.
Cherry Hill students in Mr. Barnes' seventh-grade social studies class wrote letters to District 10 City Councilmember Phylicia Porter advocating for change in their community. With the assistance of Wholeness Specialist Autrezz Williams, Councilmember Porter visited to speak with the students, listen to their concerns, and share ways they can get involved in their community.
