Two students are posed with their Scholar Superstar plaques and certificates.

As School Board Recognition Month comes to a close, we'd like to celebrate our January Scholar Superstar winners! Scholar Superstars are nominated in their schools and then finally chosen by a committee of five City Schools staff members as well as two members of our very own Board of School Commissioners

These students have proven to be leaders and contributors in their school communities, and we are delighted to honor them. Please join us in celebrating their successes:

Ma’Lae Jones
School - New Song Academy
Grade - 8

As a member of the Student Government Association, Ma’Lae sets a world-class example as a strong leader and advocate for her peers. She consistently goes above and beyond on class assignments, using the discoveries she makes in class to continue questioning the world around her. Outside of the classroom, Ma’Lae is an amazing actress, starring in a lead role on Wordsmith’s “The Purple Tape”, a 90’s spin on the hit musical Hamilton which incorporates classic 90s rap hits from Wu-Tang, The Notorious B.I.G., 2PAC and LL Cool J.

Syrae Jennings
School - City Neighbors High School
Grade - 12

Syrae is dedicated and heavily involved in student advocacy. She is the president of the GREEN TEAM, president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Library Committee, which was foundational in creating a library space at City Neighbor’s, and a Board member of Education Reimagined, a nonprofit that focuses on molding the public education system to honor and respect the uniqueness of each child.
