Championships, innovative programs, exciting opportunities, and prestigious recognitions - there's always something to celebrate in City Schools!
Here are just a few of the good news items from this week:
- Fourth-grade students at Armistead Gardens have been hard at work learning about the effects of friction, speed, and gravity. To showcase their understanding, they have been building their own roller coaster designs.
- Over 40 people attended an informational session about English language classes for adults that will be held at Fallstaff.
- Design School hosted family engagement workshops for parents and guardians. Participants attended sessions about mental health, LGBTQ+ care, suicide prevention, and more topics that were facilitated by therapists from Live Benevolent.
- Baltimore Montessori has been selected as the latest school partner for the Emeril Lagasse Foundation's Culinary Garden & Teaching Kitchen. Partner schools receive a $500,000 capital and program grant. This substantial award will enable Montessori to enhance its Seed to Table program, a student-driven initiative featuring a garden and kitchen where students learn how to grow, prepare, and savor nutritious foods.
- Seventh-grade students at Thomas Johnson learned about Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling and then emulated his process by painting their own masterpieces taped under their desks.
- Many of our schools host food pantries for their community, and often, students are involved! At Green Street, the GSA assists staff, and other students in distributing food every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
- Flexible seating in classrooms inspires student collaboration and student empowerment. At Dunbar,students enjoy learning in beanbag chairs!
- Internships are a vital part of career education at City Schools. Aaron from Mervo is interning as a student page with the Maryland General Assembly.
- BSA’s jazz ensemble held a recording session in the Rothman Production Suite. Click here to listen to their performance.
- Congratulations to January's City Schools' Scholar Superstar award honorees: Ma'Lae Jones (eighth grader at New Song Academy) and Syrae Jennings (twelfth grader at City Neighbors High School). This award recognizes students who excel in academics or extracurricular activities. Learn more about them on City Schools TV!
