Championships, innovative programs, exciting opportunities, and prestigious recognitions - there's always something to celebrate in City Schools!

Here are just a few of the good news items from this week:

  • Ten students from ConneXions received on-site admissions to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. All ten will be first-generation college students!

  • In partnership with the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Harford Heights Elementary School is providing violin lessons to students.

  • New Song Academy partnered with Crayons & Culture to start a "Power to the Children" read-aloud series with Ms. Hannah's second-grade class. After exploring the African folklore about Kwaku Anansi, students crafted their own Anansi the Spider stories!

  • There’s a lot to clap about over at Furman L. Templeton Preparatory Academy! During the recent Achievement Assembly, they celebrated the 122 students who improved their scores on the Math ANET assessment, the 146 students who improved their scores on the Reading ANET assessment, and many other amazing results! Great job, students!

  • Forest Park High School students in Ms. McKnight’s Chemistry class learned how to test water quality. This is a fantastic lab for students that showcases how the science they are learning can be used in real-world applications.

  • Healthy eating habits are important at City Schools! Fort Worthington students learned how to make their own delicious and nutritious snacks with fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • Test prep is key! Fifth-grade students at Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School used a chalk talk protocol (chalk talk uses a central piece of paper and all the students write their response on it) to prep for their Constitution and Bill of Rights quiz.

  • We celebrated 25 new electric buses and 20 charging stations with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Dr. Sonja Santelises, student members of Graceland Park/O'Donnell Heights' Green Team, and federal, state, and community partners.Read more about this event on WBAL.

Two students from Govans in the First Lego League

  • Congratulations to our City Schools teams who won awards during the Baltimore City First Lego League Qualifier held at Fort Worthington. The following teams will be attending the state tournament: 25567 Govans Dragon Designers, 63725 Hampstead Hill Elementary Hamsters, 51496 Hampstead Hill Middle Hamsters, and 62928 Graceland Park Lions.
