Championships, innovative programs, exciting opportunities, and prestigious recognitions - there's always something to celebrate in City Schools!

Here are just a few of the good news items from this week:

  • Rep. Ruppersberger has named Saria Malik, Amya Johnson, and Kayniel Gooden from Western as the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge in Maryland’s Second District.

  • City College’s Debate Team won the Novice Policy Debate Championships at the Pennsbury Invitational.

  • Poly’s Mock Trial teams were undefeated during the 2023-2024 MyLaw High School Mock Trial Case and Competition season.

  • Green Street Academy’s Engineering, Design, and Development class won the state prize in Samsung's "Solve for Tomorrow" competition. Earning this distinction for the fourth time, the class will receive a prize of over $12,000 in technology products for their classroom.

  • Forty students from Mervo and NAF  (most of whom are part of Culinary or Hospitality CTE pathways) participated in "School Food: Behind the Scenes!" They toured Baltimore’s main produce supplier, Coastal Sunbelt; visited the Baltimore Museum of Industry, where they checked out the "Food for Thought" exhibit featuring our very own food service heroes; heard from MD Hunger Solutions experts about why their voices matter; and explored museum highlights focused on Baltimore's food heritage.

  • In honor of CTE Month, Baltimore Design School shared what the students in the Architecture pathway have been learning.

  • Fifth- through eighth-grade students at Henderson-Hopkins presented projects about endangered species.

  • The Keurk Khaleyi Dance Company visited students at Belair-Edison and demonstrated various styles of African dance.

  • Lakewood students have been learning about community helpers (careers like firefighters, police officers, etc.) and experienced a hands-on lesson about dentistry at a visit to the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry.

  • Across the district, we celebrated our school counselors for National School Counselor of the Year – including this lovely bulletin board from Forest Park.
