On November 19, 2024, the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners (Board) voted to appoint Robert Salley as Board Chair and Ashiah Parker as Vice Chair.
Robert Salley was appointed to the Board in 2022. Salley is a former City Schools educator whose professional experience spans roles across K-12, higher education, non-profit, philanthropy, and government. His chair position on the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee and membership on the Board’s Policy Committee allows him to combine his extensive expertise and key perspective to support the Board’s efforts in school accountability, school improvement, and public reporting measures. Salley fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Board Chair Ronald S. McFadden.
Ashiah Parker joined the Board in 2024. Parker is the parent of a Baltimore City Public Schools’ student and has worked to ensure that every student in Baltimore City Schools has access to a quality education since the beginning of her tenure. Her membership on the Board’s Audit Committee and Board’s Operations Committee provides room for her keen insight and diverse background to flourish for the betterment of City Schools. Parker fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Board Vice Chair Shantell L. Roberts.
Both Board Chair Salley and Vice Chair Parker will only finish the remaining terms of the previous Board leadership. The Board will convene again mid-June to appoint leadership for the 2025-26 school year.
