On January 16, 2025, Dr. Nathan A. Pitts-Ashburton Elementary/Middle School hosted "Art with Purpose: An MLK Showcase on Equity & Sustainability," a remarkable event celebrating the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Guided by Ms. Flaherty, the visual arts teacher, students created inspiring works of art that reflected Dr. King’s vision of justice and unity. The showcase featured contributions from all grade levels, from vibrant graffiti-style art and meaningful collages to heartfelt messages of kindness. Pre-K students used finger paints and crayons to illustrate friendship and harmony, while middle schoolers tackled advanced themes of equity and justice through thoughtful mixed-media projects.
Organized in partnership with the Baltimore Department of Public Works (DPW) and led by the school’s Community School Coordinator, Ms. James, the showcase brought together families, students, and staff for a memorable evening of reflection and creativity. Highlighting the talents of our students and reinforcing the importance of Dr. King’s vision, the event was a powerful reminder of how partnerships and community engagement can amplify student voices and bring Dr. King’s dream of equity and unity to life. Ashburton is proud to continue fostering creativity, collaboration, and positive change for the future!
