Greetings Baltimore City Public Schools community,

Like many of you, City Schools is closely observing the new federal administration’s flurry of changes and orders. Structures, expectations, and values that our country has long agreed upon are rapidly changing with the stroke of a pen, bringing great uncertainty for all of us. The headlines and news out of the capital can be unsettling no matter your station in life.

We are writing to reaffirm our commitment to you – our students, families, and staff. Our mission remains unchanged – to ensure that our graduates are prepared for higher education, family-sustaining careers, and their postsecondary aspirations. Anchored in our key pillars of Academics, Leadership, and Student Wholeness, we will remain steadfast and uphold our values. Laws and orders may change, but our values will not.

In recent days, we have shared how we will support families impacted by the federal administration’s executive order on immigration. We also are observing updates out of Washington D.C. regarding federal funds and grants, LGBTQ+ rights, and efforts to support diversity and inclusion. As we learn more, the focus for our school system is to act thoughtfully which will enable us to be strategic and responsible in our responses.

As we learn more, we commit to passing along updates when we act.

Finally, please remember that City Schools offers students, their families, and our staff a variety of mental health resources for anyone who needs support. Do not hesitate to seek help if you need it:

The path to upholding the freedoms we hold dear has historically been filled with moments of uncertainty. Those who have navigated times like these before us – including our grandparents and seasoned loved ones - would caution us to focus our attention and energy on solutions that make our community a better place to live and work.

While the dust settles on this transition of power, Baltimore City and its school system will continue to grow as long as we stay focused on the mission and give our best efforts.

Thank you for contributing to our community!
