Strong, sustained community support plays an important role in the development of our students’ full academic and social development. We learn from the rich offerings of our diverse surroundings in Central Baltimore and beyond, and in return, our students grow to become engaged citizens in their community.

STRONG CITY BALTIMORE

Strong City Baltimore’s mission is to build and strengthen neighborhoods and people. Since it launched the Baltimore Community Schools Initiative in 2005, Strong City’s full-time Community School Site Coordinators create and sustain partnerships that support school improvement and deliver programs such as tutoring, mentoring, health services, enrichment and youth development, manage volunteers, and engage parents and neighborhood residents.

JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY

Johns Hopkins University provides academic and operational support through a deep, collaborative relationship with the school. As a result of the University’s support, students have benefited from enhanced literacy programs, tutoring, arts-based experiences, building updates, after-school clubs and more. The Margaret Brent community especially benefits from its partnership with Johns Hopkins School of Education, consistently ranked as the best graduate education program in the United States, through its Arts Integration curriculum.

VILLAGE LEARNING PLACE

An anchor institution Charles Village and the surrounding neighborhoods, Village Learning Place (VLP) is a community-created library and learning center located one block from Margaret Brent. VLP provides free after-school and summer programs for approximately 100 of our students from PreK to 8th grade.
