Hello, Educators!

Welcome back to school!

Are a fourth-grade teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools, or know someone who is, and are interested in having your students learn about artwork at The Baltimore Museum of Art and explore their own creativity through art making?

We invite you to sign up for Close Encounters.

Close Encounters is a free six-session program developed by the BMA for fourth graders in Baltimore City Public Schools.

Students explore three topics:

  •             Portraits & Personalities

  •             Stories in Art

  •             Moods & Feelings

After each tour, students participate in facilitated Make & Share activities designed to promote social and emotional learning.

Students strengthen their curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and self-reflection through close observation of art, discussion, writing, and making.

This year teachers may choose from two options:

  • Choose an entirely virtual program, with three tours and three Make & Share sessions taught by museum educators through Zoom or Google Meet.

Or

  • choose a hybrid program of three in-person tours at the BMA and three virtual Make & Share sessions.

Learn more by watching our Close Encounters video.   Apply to Close Encounters here.
