western @ GHEMS HS fair

Baltimore, MD — Garrett Heights Elementary-Middle School (GHEMS) proudly hosted its first-ever High School Choice Fair this week, offering its 7th and 8th-grade students a unique opportunity to explore future educational paths. The event featured an impressive lineup of local high schools, including Western High School, Digital Harbor High School, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, and several others, who came to educate and inspire students about the programs and opportunities their schools offer.

The fair was designed to help students and families navigate the high school selection process with ease and confidence. Representatives from participating schools shared information about academic programs, extracurricular activities, and support services available to incoming students.

"We are thrilled to connect our students with some of the best high school programs in Baltimore," said George Strother, Community School Coordinator at GHEMS. "This event is about empowering our students to make informed decisions about their futures and helping them see the possibilities that await them in high school and beyond."

Students eagerly visited booths and engaged with representatives, asking insightful questions about everything from specialized STEM programs to arts initiatives and athletic opportunities. For many students, the fair was their first glimpse into the next phase of their academic journey, sparking excitement and curiosity.

An Eighth-grader shared, "I really liked learning about the robotics program at Digital Harbor. It made me think about a career in engineering!"

Parents in attendance appreciated the convenience of having multiple schools represented in one place. “It’s wonderful to have so many options here,” said one GHEMS parent. “We’re getting the information we need to make the best decision for our child.”

The High School Choice Fair marks a significant step in GHEMS' ongoing commitment to preparing students for success. By introducing them to a variety of options early, the school aims to ensure every student feels confident and prepared as they transition to high school.

As the event wrapped up, the energy in the room was palpable, with students excitedly discussing their top picks and future aspirations. With such a successful debut, GHEMS plans to make the High School Choice Fair an annual tradition, further fostering a culture of preparedness and ambition among its students.
