GHEMS Family Shines on the Track: Meet the Nationally Ranked Siblings!
At Garrett Heights Elementary Middle School (GHEMS), one family is making headlines for their incredible talent on the track. Meet the Smith siblings: Mekhi (4th grade) and Xavier (3rd grade) and cousins the Mitchell-Lee siblings Khari (1st grade) and Kehlani (2nd grade). These four young athletes are not only excelling in the classroom but are also nationally ranked track and field standouts!
Mekhi, the oldest of the four, is a sprinting sensation. Gold medalist in the 800-meter and 400-meter dashes, he has earned a top-10 national ranking in his age group. His speed and determination have made him a role model for his younger siblings.
Khari, the youngest at just 6 years old, is already turning heads as a silver medalist in the 800m. Despite being in 1st grade, Khari has shown incredible focus and athleticism, earning a spot among the top-ranked athletes in the nation for his age group.
Kehlani, a 2nd grader, is a rising star in the 800-meter run and hurdles. Her endurance and technique have helped her drop her time by 4 sec, ranking her in the top 50 despite it being her first time competing in the race. Kehlani says her favorite part of track is "running fast and making new friends."
Xavier, a 3rd grader, is becoming an elite distance runner. Raked in the top 10 in the 400m. His strength and speed have earned him a place on the national stage, where he continues to impress coaches and competitors alike.
Both sibling sets credit their success to hard work, teamwork, and the support of their family. Their parents, the Smith family and the Mitchell-Lee family, are their biggest fans, cheering them on at every meet. "We’re so proud of their dedication and sportsmanship," said Mrs. Smith. "They inspire each other to be their best."
When they’re not on the track, the siblings enjoy spending time together, playing games, and helping out at school. Their teachers at GHEMS say their positive attitudes and determination make them standouts both on and off the track.
Congratulations to Mekhi, Khari, Kehlani, and Xavier for representing GHEMS with pride and showing us all what it means to chase your dreams! Keep running, jumping, and throwing—your school is rooting for you!
