Academics at Hamilton
Gifted and Talented Education services are available to students in Grades K-12 throughout Maryland. Multiple criteria are reviewed to identify students who need high-end services within an authentic curriculum of rigorous performance expectations.
In our Honors and Advanced Academic, highly selective classes, students benefit from a rigorous common core, college preparatory curriculum. Students in these Advanced and Honors classes complete the curriculum of the grade level above in ELA and math. Students' grades will be weighted more heavily toward high school composite scores.
The Ingenuity Project is a highly competitive program for 6th-8th graders. Students are exposed to a rigorous curriculum for Science and Math.
Enriching Resources:
Health Education: Lessons are designed to develop essential health skills necessary to adopt, practice, and maintain health-enhancing behaviors.
Physical Education: In Physical education class, students develop skills for worthy use of leisure times, engage in activities that are conducive to healthy living, develop socially, and contribute to their physical and mental health.
Art Education:
Art is everywhere in our building. Whether you are walking the hallways, using the elevator or stopping by the local Hamilton Art Gallery, you will spot Ms. McGuire's student artwork. All of our K-8 students create works of art based on art movements, famous artists, and other elements from art history. They will learn the elements and principles of art to prepare them for middle and high school, through printmaking, sculpture, painting, and drawing.
Spanish: Middle school students are emerged in the cultural aspects of the language and how they relate to the global experience. There will also be an emphasis on reading, writing, and listening.
Music Education: Students will experience both instrumental and vocal music this year! We are excited to partner with Arts Everyday to provide a vast variety of artistic and culturally diverse experiences.
Coding: Both our elementary and middle-school students are providing an opportunity to participate in our computer coding classes. These project-based enrichment class exposes our youth to a wide range of CS concepts early.
Makerspace: Our state of the art makerspace was added in 2023 and serves students through our resource class offerings. Students use critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills to create solutions to real-world issues and problems. This is hands-on learning at its best, and makes for a very popular class for our students.
