COBRA Insurance Continuation

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) is a federal law that requires most employers sponsoring group health plans to offer employees and their families the opportunity to temporarily extend their health coverage (continuation coverage) at group rates in certain instances (COBRA Qualifying Events) when coverage under the Plan would otherwise end.

If you experience termination of your employment for any reason other than your gross misconduct, your hours are reduced or change in your employment status, which causes you to no longer be eligible for benefits, divorce, entitlement to Medicare, or end of eligibility status under the Plan, i.e., when a child turns 26.

If you choose continuation coverage, cobra will provide you with the same coverage provided to active employees and their family members under its health plans. You may only continue coverage (including options for that coverage) you had at the time COBRA rights began, not add coverage. Continuation of coverage must be elected within the election period. COBRA continuation coverage is administered by P&A Group.
