71st Commencement Exercises of Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School Saturday, June 8, 2024 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 a.m. Physical Education Complex at Coppin State University

WHAT: MANDATORY GRADUATION REHEARSALS WHEN: June 5 & 6, 2024 TIME: 1 pm-3 pm

WHERE: Mervo in the Auditorium

What happens at Graduation Rehearsal?

● Day 1- Diploma Candidates will be given their placement in the processional and will be given instructions on how the ceremony commence. ○ Full run through of Graduation Ceremony ○ Students will receive graduation announcements, yard signs, class gift, stoles and cords at the conclusion of rehearsal. (Stoles and cords are only given to candidates who are graduating with honors or as CTE completers)

● Day 2- Full run throughs of Graduation Ceremony ○ Students will receive cap and gowns, medallions and tickets at the conclusion of rehearsal.

Students are receiving 5 guest tickets. This number comes from the district. Mervo will not have any additional tickets available for purchase or otherwise.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT DIPLOMA CANDIDATES ATTEND BOTH REHEARSALS. OUR GRADUATION CEREMONY IS ONLY ONE HOUR LONG WHICH MEANS TIMING IS TIGHT AND PROPER EXECUTION IS A MUST!

Student Arrival Times and Information: Expected Arrival Time:10 am

Students can be dropped off at the arena an hour before their ceremony. Guests cannot wait with their students in the arena. Students will have a special holding room for graduates only and must stay there. Attire is business casual. No jeans. High or stiletto type heels are not permitted on the floor at Coppin State University. Caps may be decorated but may not have vulgar or offensive language, pictures, symbols or signs.

Guest Arrival Times and Expectations: Entry Time: 10:40 am Guests can enter Coppin State University's Physical Education Complex Arena 35 minutes before the ceremony. Guests should follow stadium protocol for entry

. ● Guests are only allowed to enter the facility (PEC Arena) from the main Arena entrance (Located at the corner of Warwick Avenue and Gwynn’s Falls Parkway). All other entrances will be locked. Please see map below.

● Parking is prohibited at Mondawmin Mall. Guests who park at Mondawmin Mall are subject to towing and are responsible for all associated costs. City Schools assumes no responsibility for individuals who violate parking instructions.

● All guests will be checked upon entry.

● Small clear bags are recommended.

● Food and beverages are prohibited in Coppin State University's Physical Education Complex Arena. However, concessions will be available once guests arrive, but we will cut off concessions 15-20 minutes into the ceremony.

● There is no time allotted for families to take pictures after each ceremony because City Schools will host another graduation ceremony immediately afterward. Therefore, City Schools is asking all stakeholders to depart Coppin State University premises after the ceremony immediately. Prohibited Items: Below are the items PROHIBITED on Coppin State University’s premises and graduation ceremonies:

● Balloons● Outside Food and Beverage ● Smoking

● Alcohol ● Illegal Substances

● Weapons ● Backpacks, Duffel bags

● Oversize purses or computer cases ● Fireworks

● Noisemakers ● Laser pointers

● Beach balls ● Signs of any size or other distracting objects

● Any other items or actions deemed dangerous or inappropriate by Campus Police

● Bullhorns ● Signs
