Academics at Montebello

  • ​​Montebello currently follows the traditional district wide curriculum.  We will offer middle school honors courses in Science and Social Studies beginning fall 2024.  All students receive World Language (Spanish) PK-8.

  • Montebello is an IB World School Candidate (PYP).  Eventually we will transition to a modified curriculum with an infusion of the IB World Curriculum standards.

Resource Classes Offered:

  • Art Education: In Art class, all students will learn the elements and principles of art, photography, sketching, printmaking, pottery, painting, and graphic design, as well as important periods and artists in art history. 

  • Computer Science: Our middle-school students learn basic computing skills along with internet safety and how to be a good digital citizen.

  • Health Education: In Health class, students are introduced to topics that promote health and disease prevention.  Topics include mental and emotional health, substance abuse prevention, healthy eating, safety and violence prevention, disease prevention and control along with family life and human sexuality.

  • Instrumental Music: In Instrumental music, Pre-k thru 8th grade students learn the essential elements of music like rhythm, pitch, and harmony; different musical genres; various instruments; music composition; and the history and culture of music over the years.

  • Physical Education: In Physical education class, students are provided with opportunities to learn motor skills, develop fitness, and gain an understanding of the importance of physical activity. It’s also essential for students to engage in activities that are conducive to healthy living, participate in activities that help them develop socially, as well as participate in activities that contribute to their physical and mental health.

  • World Language (Spanish): Both our Elementary and Middle school students receive Spanish language instruction. Classes focus not only on speaking, reading, writing and listening but also the cultural aspects of the language and how it relates to the global experience.
