Our Mission
The TJEMS community will work to ensure arts equity by creating learning opportunities with arts and arts-integrated practices that build an appreciation of beauty, strengthen connections between areas of learning, and provide experiences that support a sense of belonging and inclusion.

We think our Vision and Mission statements say it all! We are committed to providing arts and arts integrated experiences to our students during instruction in the general classroom, working with teaching artists during residencies and our SMART Days of collaborative planning and teaching, and during assemblies. Our teachers are provided with professional development in arts integration to help support their work in the classroom. Each year our calendar is filled with programing that provides opportunities for each grade!

We have been both an Arts Every Day school and a Young Audiences Arts for Learning School for many years. Our work has been supported with additional funding from these partner organizations along with funding from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Peabody Institute of Music. Our committed work has also been recognized through various awards including the 2016 Young Audiences Visionary School Award, a 2017 Arts Every Day Impact Fund grant, a 2019 Music Ed Remix award and a 2019-2020 Young Audiences Principal Fellowship award given to TJEMS’s principal, Ms. Davis!
