Summer Math Assignments

📚 Ready to kick off the summer with some academic prep! ☀️ Our summer assignments are here to gear you up for the exciting challenges ahead. 🚀 Whether it's diving into new material or brushing up on key concepts, we're getting set for a stellar start to the year! Let's make this summer count!

Research has shown how important it is for students to do math regularly, and to keep up their skills during the summer. The summer assignment will benefit your Dove in 2 key ways:

1. The skills covered in the summer assignment were specifically chosen to prepare your Dove for next year, and to help her start the year off strong. Some of the skills are very basic, and some are more challenging, but all are important for success in math.

2. The summer assignment is required. This is an opportunity to start the year off strong, improve your Dove’s core math skills, and build good habits for next year. The summer assignment is hosted on Khan Academy. It is very important you sign up using your legal name, otherwise you may not get credit for your work! Summer Assignment Due Date: the first day of school: Monday, August 26, 2024.

As you begin to explore the summer assignment, you may notice there are many activities listed as part of the assignment. Please don’t be alarmed! More than half of the activities are short videos to watch, or short articles to read. These are there to help your Dove review and refresh her knowledge, so she can complete the assignments with questions.

The videos and articles are not required, but are available for those who need them in order to complete the “exercise” and “quiz” activities. Note on academic honesty and plagiarism: All submitted assignments should be the original work of the student. If students plagiarize or use AI, they will lose credit on their submission.

The goal of this summer assignment is to help your daughter get off to a great start in math next year, and to avoid learning losses which are common in the summer. Please encourage your daughter to start the assignment early, and not wait until the last minute.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss the assignment, please feel free to reach out to the Western High School Math Coach, Mr. Dalal at mdalal@bcps.k12.md.us. Thank you for your support, we hope you and your family have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to a strong 2024-2025 school year filled with mathematical excellence from all our Doves.

Have a great summer,
