Dear Western High 9th Grade Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! Many of you have anxious anticipation as your daughter, the apple of your eye, is transitioning to high school from middle school. I do not take lightly that you are trusting us with your greatest treasure, each and every day. I am deeply honored to continue the great legacy of Western High School, and its respected and influential history that has been in place for 180 years within Baltimore City, our country and our world. I am elated to transition to Western High School with your daughter, and look forward to supporting the Class of 2028 until they graduate from high school.

This upcoming school year is my first year at Western High School, fifth year as an assistant principal and 14th year working with the young people of Baltimore City. Previously, I was at Roland Park Elementary Middle School for the last four years, serving grade levels Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th. Hailing from the Eastern Shore and a family of educators, I started my journey in City Schools working for the Elev8 Baltimore after school and summer program in East Baltimore as a college sophomore in 2010. Since then, I have taught in Baltimore City Public Schools, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, and worked in the Central Office of Baltimore City Public Schools. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Towson University, Master of Science in School Administration from Johns Hopkins University, and am currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Urban Educational Leadership Program at Morgan State University. When I’m not working, writing, or traveling with my husband, Kharey, I am active with my church, Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church, and my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Rho Xi Omega chapter.

This year, I am sincerely looking forward to working with the special Class of 2028. For the past two years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to guide this cohort at Roland Park in 7th and 8th grade. They are a talented, unique, hard-working group of young people, whom I am excited to guide in our time together at Western High School. We look forward to creating D.O.V.E.S; young women who are dignified, optimistic, vibrant, elite, and who exemplify sisterhood. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, or need any information. Have a great rest of your summer!

Educationally Yours,

Mallory Wright Gayle
